Bittersweet day...........

The bitter part...

Got some bad news about Gypsy today. The framework deterioration is so far gone it will make restoring her financially unfeasible.  She is worth more right now in parts that she will be if I do the work so, I have to part her out. I'm sorry old girl, I really tried.

The sweet part...

I have a line on Gypsy II. Stay tuned.

  2. So, was it a metal structural failure that ended up bringing about her demise?

I've seen more than my fair share of rigs that were basically rebuilt from the ground up because the old wooden frames were rotted out.

The upside to the wooden framed rigs is, even starting over from scratch, the material outlay isn't terribly much, especially if you rip your own lumber (2x4x8s around these parts go for about $2).

I look forward to a day when I can park the old KIT in a barn and strip off her skin and rebuild alot of her frame.

  3. Laura - Thanks. I do feel a little like I'm quitting on her but the reality is what it is.

I found out about another rig that looks very promising. in fact, it is all but done deal.

    Pics coming soon.

  4. Matt - The reality is there are so many rigs out there for dirt cheap prices right now that it just does not make sense to spend the repair dollars if, the repairs are as bad as Gypsy's are.
I'm grateful I learned a lot for the next one.

I may have to come up with a new name....

  5. Your area must be more saturated with folks selling out of their RVs than around here. There's plenty of units for "cheap" around here, but most are in Gypsy's shape or worse.

The few that are in decent shape, folks want 2-4x what they're worth.

For example, my 1974 KIT Kamper went for $1500. There's alot of units that were in far worse shape going for that price or more.

  6. Matt - WOW!.....Yes you can find anything around here for bottom dollar right now. Most major manufacturers are near here so maybe that is why there are so many here.
